As the water passes through the filter, iron and manganese particles are removed. The particles are absorbed in the filter mass which is backwashed automatically when the filter mass has become saturated. If the water is low in oxygen or contains hydrogen sulphide, the efficiency of the filter is easily increased with an air column / air charger.
